Car flies through the air, crashes into house roof

Robert Christie thought something exploded when he heard a loud boom just before 5 p.m. Friday.

“We heard a bang, a loud bang, and then our house shook a little bit,” said Christie, who lives on Konnoak Drive.

“I ran outside, looked up and saw the hole in the roof,” he said.

Winston-Salem police say at approximately 4:45 p.m., an elderly woman driving between 70 to 90 miles an hour went straight through the intersection of Konnoak Drive and Beth Avenue.

“She hit that curb, hit the incline, went airborne and went through the top of the house,” said Sgt. Verron Chue.
